NOR's favourite things: Apartment edition

After spending two straight days cleaning the apartment from top to bottom to continue the illusion that I always live in pristine conditions, another expletive snowfall ruined the plans of having friends over to drink and yell at each other over board games. Now I sit waiting to see if it will also cancel plans to walk Calvin with Tofu and his folks.

I COULD (and probably will) continue the negative energy and be really cranky about the extended winter, or I could look (very hard) for the silver lining in this: I am in a clean apartment that (for the most part) I love. So behold! My favourite apartment things!

*Americans, does it drive you nuts that we Canucks insist on shoving 'u's everywhere?*

Solid wood, big-assed dining room table, found by fluke for $160. Also, matching chair set found separately for $80. Please notice Calvin sneaking into the picture to ensure he makes the list. Custom big-assed mirror made by best friend and overall craft-phenom out of a bathroom mirror at our old house and some basic wood. It weighs a ton. Total cost: $20ish.
If you look to the left, you'll see three prints hanging vertically. Those are my next favourite. Art deco marketing materials from the DHBC - the folks who gave me my first PR gig. Total cost: $40 to plaque mount. Here's a close-up.
Ikea something-Swedish bookshelf. We don't have a great spot for it here but it'll be back to its full glory in whatever house we end up in. Total cost: $140ish, shipped from Montréal.Lovely balcony doors and harbour view which of course is better in the summer (Calvin's favourites).
Last and probably my utmost favourite, the only really expensive thing on the list, my custom chair-and-a-half and ottoman (which opens for major storage) from La-Z-Boy furniture.
So there you have it. Listing things that make me happy distracted me from the horror of being if full-fledged winter nearing April. Back to hating everything now. I'm talking to YOU, Mother Nature!

That comfy chair looks like it should be in my house. I like that Calvin managed to sneak into some of the pictures. Oh, and I don't mind the u's.

That chair looks so lovely. And the interior design! Very nice indeed.

And just so you know, it's not the U's that bother us - it's the pouring maple syrup all over everything that does.

I had no idea guys actually cleaned their apartments.

...ever.

The Ex: Then I shouldn't mention that all the dark wood in the pictures are actually stained using maple syrup...and the ottoman actually stores a beaver and a Canadian goose...

Just Me: I'm a special breed to say the least.

The "u" thing? YES. My cousin spent one semester of college in Spain and for some reason thinks that gives her free reign to throw them in where they don't belong. You have a proper reason, I suppose.

I want to take a nap in that chair. It looks far too comfy for life.

I am jealous of the dining room table and chairs. I'm trying to find something nice on sale or something, but nothing is coming up. and I like the way your place looks so comfortable (and clean!)-- oh, and Calvin is so cute... That's a very nice artistic shot of him ;)

And I don't mind the "u's"... it's different when you're actually from a place that uses them and aren't using them to be cool. Bah.

You have converted me. I put a disclaimer on my page to correct my sexist remark. (slight sarcasm)

Ooh, that chair looks comfy. Do you take naps in it while watching TV? I certainly hope so.

Also, I love your dining room set. I need to get one before I move out in the real world, and I love the color of it!

Chair is the Daphne from La-z-boy:

I spend 80% of my life in it in order to get my money's worth. Loves it.

I just stumbled here from somewhere else (duh!) and just wanted to say go the U's....I'm so glad the Canadians still spell correctly and that the entire English speaking world has not been dumbed down to spell everything phonetically.
Don't get me started on imperial measurements!

I actually love all the U's you Canucks put everywhere, I'm not sure why. Maybe because I'm about as close you can get to Canada as far as the weather goes. Congrats on being the featured blogger on 20SB!

I love that chair/ottoman!! I love peeking into peoples apartments, it's especially nice when it is totally invited to peek. Then I feel like less of a stalker!

Woot! Glad people like my overpriced chair and my overused 'U's!
